Food

Figlmüller Wollzeile for the famous, original pork Wiener Schnitzel

Restaurant Walter Bauer for an old school charm but modern twist on traditional food (1 Michelin star) (no website, must email or call)

Opus for a fancy meal (1 Michelin Star)

Bitzinger Würstelstand bei der Albertina for the Käsekrainer (sausage with cheese inside)

Kurkonditorei Oberlaa is a chain but serves solid pastries and meals that is full of locals.

The famous cafes: Cafe Central, Cafe Demel, and Sacher – don’t wait in the ridiculous line if there is one. Grab cake to go and find a bench in one of the gorgeous parks along the Ring Strasse. While the Sacher Torte is famous, it’s a relatively dry cake that demands whipped cream alongside it. Skip it and dive into something else.

The Naschmarkt to wander and sample food and wine outside at this huge food market. Stop by Urbanek, a tiny meet and cheese store and famous wine bar run by the sons of the owner. Tell them how many people you want to feed and if you want anything special (e.g., all Austrian-sourced) and they’ll put together a charcuterie platter and suggest a wine pairing.
